“The more power a government has, the more it can act arbitrarily according to the whims and desires of the elite…” – Hans-Hermann Hoppe
Recently a video of an informational meeting that was held in Archuleta County, CO regarding the potential – and I will repeat, potential – wrongdoings of the current Commissioner Veronica Medina, was shared with me.
I believe the title of the meeting/video would have been clear for those attending – Informational Meeting – however, what unfolded before my eyes for approximately 1:39.30 I cannot scrub from my memory. What I saw was nothing short of a room full of shouting school children, each trying to out do the others with their own tantrums. They treated this informational meeting as if it were a free-for-all debate, rather than a session to watch the presentation and then ask questions.
What a joke.
The Presenter of this informational meeting was treated with disrespect and even called “weird” by an attendee because she was presenting evidence as to why We The People should look into the recent activities of Commissioner Veronica Medina. Mr. Ranson – who was in attendance and is currently vying for your vote to be your next County Commissioner – said “Shame on us” because this was not the Community he has been a part of for 16 years. He went on to say “Shame on us as a Community. In two years we are going to have the chance to either re-elect her or not. We don’t need these people signing petitions kicking people out. Particularly, *employees of the County.”
*County Commissioners are ELECTED by vote of the people.
I’ll define that further. Public Officials are elected by the People, for the People. They are not At-Will Employees of the County. I will give Mr. Ranson the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t mean to mispeak.
Mr. Ranson’s statements, however, are exactly why our Forefathers put the checks & balances in place. Our Founding Fathers knew when they were creating our Country’s Founding documents that We The People had the inherent right to call into check the very people we put into office to lawfully protect our rights – “It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices [checks and balances] should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary.”
Should we just ignore these potential violations because Veronica Medina is only in office for another two years?
Make that make sense.
So, if a Commissioner is caught red-handed doing something that violates their Oath of Office during their term, we are to simply brush it off and say…well they only have an x amount of years to keep doing what they’re doing. Sorry, but that is an asinine thought process. I don’t know any company that would keep an employee on their payroll after they have been caught – no. They would be fired. The Voters (company) have the right to recall an elected official (employee).
No one is above the law. Being voted into office doesn’t give immunity to do whatever you want because you have “Commissioner” attached to your name.
Mr. Ranson went on to ask when did Archuleta County become such a County to question elected officials. I’ll tell you when. Archuleta County changed when the back door deals went from behind closed doors to happening right in front of us. You’re right, this County isn’t the same. People are starting to see what is happening and are calling out those who misrepresent us with their self made “power”. Just as our Forefathers commissioned us to do.
These comments did not sit well with me but what was really concerning to me were the comments made by the Attorney currently on the County’s payroll – Todd Weaver. At one point he asked the Presenter where she got her “law degree” from.
Irrelevant! Mr. Attorney.
Did our Forefathers have a piece of paper from an elitist white man college saying that they can represent someone because they memorized statutes? No. They only created the most powerful documents of this Country because even they could see when they were getting fucked.
But you see, an educated populace scares those in positions of power. Todd Weaver would like you to believe that you are too stupid to read and comprehend words that make up our State laws and Founding documents. Too stupid to think for yourselves.
According to a Forbes article published in 2023, he may have a point.
Forbes published the article – An Uneducated Populace Is A Grave Threat To Liberty. It cited a study that was done in 2022 that showed only 51% of eighth graders could correctly identify the three branches of government. In 2018 another study showed that only 32% of adults could correctly identify the three branches of government.
Our elected officials and employees of these Counties are counting on these statistics. Their power increases the more their constituents’ knowledge declines. They are banking on this recession and in fact, actively encouraging it. We saw this demonstrated in real time throughout the duration of this informational meeting.
But then, Todd Weaver gave accolades to the Presenter saying that she did indeed accurately describe the recall process. It seems we ordinary folks can indeed read and understand!
As I continued to watch the recording, I was appalled by the actions of Todd Weaver. He assumes that his law degree makes him wiser than someone who can read and comprehend basic English without spending a fortune on a diploma.
Todd Weaver stated that “They (County Commissioners) are elected to make decisions – that’s why they are elected”. Yes, but let’s clarify that. They are elected to make decisions in OUR best interest, representing our God Given Rights, not the interests of corporations. I will give Todd Weaver the benefit of the doubt though because he has been “..an attorney for 24 years and knows the law pretty well”.
I was nauseated by how Veronica Medina mocked the Presenter and used her Commissioner status to belittle her very own constituents. Even laughing at the Presenter and not respecting the public forum. Should we show the same respect during a public commissioner meeting that Veronica showed the Presenter? You’d be thrown out of that meeting so fast if we acted like Veronica Medina and Todd Weaver did throughout this informational meeting.
Archuleta Residents pride themselves in knowing their neighbors and having that small town feel. Does that pride include turning a blind eye to corruption because we share a cup of sugar with our neighbor? Here, let me help you change your tire but I’ll ignore what’s in your trunk.
You see, I too, love small town feels, but we shouldn’t participate in this game of being bribed or threatened to keep our mouths shut when we know something isn’t right. The way this meeting unfolded was not neighborly and it was far from the “small town” vibe.
I don’t think anyone at that meeting even took the time to read through the Presenters information and facts. If they did, they would be asking those very same questions. The video clearly showed that the attendees arrived at the meeting with preconceived notions. They came in already feeling offended and clung to their own opinions instead of considering the information being presented.
Where was that small town, neighborly way of life?
What I saw was a mockery of the law, a belittling of peers to make them feel stupid so they don’t question the corruption happening right before their eyes and a down right circus act by those in attendance.
If there was nothing to conceal, why resort to mockery?
